How Do You Test the Safety Standards of Fixed Electrical Installations?

Inspection of an existing electrical installation is usually done by fixed wire testing. This is mainly done to identify any deficiencies that may be present and is then compared to the national safety standard for electrical installations. This kind of testing will help to identify the following:

• If there is overloading in any electrical circuits or equipment

• If there are any potential electrical shock risks or fire hazards in the electrical installation

• If any electrical work is defective

• If there is a lack of proper earthing or bonding

Tests are also carried out on wiring and other fixed electrical equipment to check for safety. Electrical installation condition reporting is the method employed to do the fixed wire test.

How Often Should Electrical Wire Testing Be Done?

Fixed wire testing should be conducted at least every ten years for a domestic installation and every five years for a commercial installation. Electrical installation condition reporting is also done when a property is being prepared to be let, prior to a property being sold or when a previously occupied property is ready to be bought. Wire testing is also carried out when there is reason to believe that there is damage to a building due to flooding or fire.

Identify Professional Electrical Service Providers

There are several electrical service providers in the UK that offer a range of services from basic PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing), EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Reports), Electrical Safety Certificates, Fuse Board Replacement and sub-contractual electrical installations and all the way to full M&E (Mechanical and Electrical) design and installation. An electricalinstallation condition reporting, also known as a fixed wire test, is done to evaluate the general condition of all electrical systems in a building, to determine if they are suitable for ongoing use and to identify any necessary repairs. This requires a professional team that can do a comprehensive assessment of a building.

To ensure that a building is completely secure and that electrical inspection is carried out at an expert level, identify a trusted electrical service provider for accurate electrical installation condition reports.
